Mission Statement and Purpose

Mission Statement
Providing holistic and sex-positive sexual health education to a variety of audiences and populations in an engaging, accessible, and inclusive manner.

Sexuality is a significant part of our identities. How we come to understand, define, and develop our sexuality and sexual identities vary person to person. As a parent or teacher, it may be daunting to answer the questions your kids/students ask, and perhaps you even have questions you want answered, but don't know who to ask.

My Sex Ed's goal is to help provide individuals with the insight they are searching for to help them better understand sexual health.

My Sex Ed's three key tenets to providing sexual health education training are:

1. Holistic education: sharing well-rounded, comprehensive, and sex-positive views of sex, sexuality, sexual development, and sexual health.
2. Respect: fostering a learning environment that promotes respect among all individuals that are part of the workshop.
3. Client-centred learning:
While My Sex Ed develops and follows the curriculum to design workshops, My Sex Ed values what clients are interested in learning about and modifies the workshop content to meet their educational needs.
Workshop and Family Consultation Topics
Specific subject content that can be covered during workshops and private family consultations includes:
  • Communication skills (e.g. negotiating consent, decision making, and setting boundaries)
  • Safer sex practices (e.g. Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI) prevention, pregnancy prevention, barrier methods, oral contraceptives)
  • Identifying STI symptoms
  • Healthy relationships
  • Reproduction and reproductive health
  • Sexual orientation and gender identity
  • Body image
  • Social influences on sexuality (e.g. social media, television, movies, music, magazines)
  • Other (if there are specific topics that are not listed above and that you would like covered, My Sex Ed would be happy to incorporate them into our discussion!)
Grades 1 to 12 Sexual Health Education (SHE) Teacher Training Workshops
In many provinces across Canada, Sexual Health Education (SHE) is mandatory. However, few teachers receive formal training in SHE. My Sex Ed's workshops for teachers offer a well-balanced overview of theoretical and practical aspects of SHE. While it is important to understand the theories and research behind SHE, My Sex Ed also ensure that teachers establish a good understanding of SHE pedagogy through reflection, collaborative brainstorming, and group discussions.

Three three objectives for SHE teacher training are:

1. Curriculum: Provide educators with an in-depth overview of the curriculum content which they are required to teach.
2. Knowledge: Provide educators with a fundamental understanding of important content knowledge and topics related to sexual health (education).
3. Pedagogy:
Research shows that comfort with the subject area at hand contributes to successful teaching. Sharing best practice strategies and developing confidence in teaching through a variety of activities will help teachers ameliorate their ability to teach SHE effectively.
